This is my start of working on transcribing Wang Xizhi (calligrapher, 344 to 386 AD) Regular Script Thousand Character Classic (楷書千字文).

A friend of 15 years, Justin Teng, brought this script to me all the way from Taiwan in his brief visit to Cambridge early this month. The main purpose of his trip to the UK was to see Vivienne Westwood’s first shop in London. Lucky me!

Back at primary school in Taiwan, Calligraphy was compulsory, while I never found it a gem. But here and now, sitting in a corner of England after so many years having gone by, I again pick up the brush, grind the ink stick as I did as a little schoolgirl, and there you go…

Not at all compulsory anymore, but absolutely treasured like never before.
